STRAW NOT HAY?
Hay is feed for animals. It is green and is usually cut two times a year.
Straw is the hollow stem that is left over when they take oats, wheat, barley or flax from a field to make food. It is used for bedding for animals, but much more straw is produced than is ever needed.
Every year the bales pile up at the side of the road, a waste product of an industry seeking new directions. Old square balers become obsolete and join the rows of rotting grain stalk along the fences.
Wind Power:
Renewable Energy for a Global Energy Crisis

Wind power is an increasingly popular method of creating “green” energy. It has non-existent fuel costs, is renewable, and emits no greenhouse gases. Wind will be a key part of solving the global energy crisis.

The conversion of wind power into energy has been used by humans for over 5,500 years, first for irrigation and mechanical assistance and now in the 21st century as a resource for electrical power. Wind-powered technology such as the windmill has proven to be vital to the agricultural development of several continents, including Asia, Europe and North America. One modern method of harnessing wind power comes in the form of wind turbine technology. Wind turbines are rotating machines of various sizes and designs which convert the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical energy, which can then be used as a source of electrical power. Wind turbines are perhaps the most widely recognizable tools of wind power.
Wind power is widely viewed to be one of the most environmentally friendly of all energy sources. It has numerous advantages over traditional natural gas and fossil fuels. Wind energy is plentiful in almost all areas of the world, and can be used to supplement both rural and urban power sources. Wind energy is also renewable, clean, and is a free and plentiful source of fuel. Compared to other energy sources, the costs for the construction and maintenance of wind energy plants are negligible, as are detrimental environmental effects. These already minimal costs are set to increase even further with the development of more efficient green power technology.
In areas where wind patterns occur in short, intermittent bursts, wind energy does not have as consistent an output as other fuel-powered plants. However, this problem is addressed by the manufacture of storage technologies and backup generators to create a reserve wind power supply for use when wind patterns are weak. Studies conducted in Denmark show that periods of low wind power can be managed by restarting existing power stations that have been maintained in preparation for such an occasion. While this would not completely solve the problem of using fossil fuels entirely, it would provide residents with a source of electricity while keeping the costs and emissions of a fossil fuel-generated power plant down, as the main cost of running a power station is fuel. This is an example of using a clean, renewable energy source such as wind power to supplement existing power sources.
While wind power produces about 1% of worldwide electricity use, wind power generation on a global scale has increased fivefold between 2000 and 2007, and shows signs of continued growth
